Abstract

|
The authors of this article was observed two patients who committed a sui-cide with a large dosage of Dapsone. The main complaint of those patients was cyanosis, dyspnea, and mental change. The diagnosis was me themoglobinemia and those patients
were
treated with an active charcoal hemoperfusion, oral adminis-tration of methelene blue (3-5mg/kg), and ascorbic acid (300-500mg/day).
Due to the large amount of Dapsone, the half-life of plasma could be extended. An IV solution(methylene blue) treatment is more effective than the oral adminis-tration. Although it was difficult to acquire methylene blue IV solution, asignificant
results was obtained with using only oral administration of methylene blue.
The usefulness of active charcoal hemoperfusion is controversial. With our experience, however, its usefulness is also recommended when there is a Dap-sone intoxication.
